Jewelry isn’t indestructible. While it’s a nice idea to not worry about taking your jewelry off, the reality is you can’t wear it 24/7. It’s metal and it’s precious metal—which means it wears.

Maintenance and care are involved in ensuring your jewelry has a long life. Here are three tips to make sure you get the most out of your jewelry.

THREE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR JEWELRY LAST LONGER

  1. TAKE NECKLACES & BRACELETS OFF BEFORE BED
Bracelets and chain necklaces get trashed in bed. The delicate fragility of the pieces mixed with tossing in bed means chains can easily break or wear.
Action Step: If you’re in the habit of wearing jewelry to bed, keep a small dish on your nightstand to make sure you take your bracelets and necklaces off before going to sleep.

  2. KEEP RINGS AND BANGLES CLEAN
Thicker pieces like rings and bangles are safer to wear more. You don’t need to worry about taking these pieces off before bed or showering, as they’re more able to withstand daily wear. Be sure to keep them clean by letting them sit in a cleaning solution or jewelry cleaner once a month.
    Action Step:
Using a small glass bowl, tear a chunk of aluminum foil off and place it in the bowl shiny side up. Gather your rings, necklaces, and bracelets, and place them in the bowl over the tin foil. Make sure a part of the jewelry is touching the foil. Pour in half white vinegar and half boiling water so the jewelry is covered. Spoon a couple teaspoons of baking soda into the bowl, until it bubbles. Let jewelry sit for an hour. You can also purchase a jewelry cleaning solution where you place jewelry on a tray and submerge. Let it sit for a couple minutes to clean.

  3. REPAIR WHEN NEEDED
Often, a simple repair gives jewelry new life. It may be a broken chain on a necklace, missing clasp on a bracelet or loose stone in a ring.
Action Step: Bring your pieces into our shop or your local jeweler to give your jewelry maximum life.
